About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mining Mechanical Engineer to support engineering and technical services at an underground mining operation in northern New York. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, analyzing, and supporting critical mine infrastructure systems, including underground ventilation, power distribution, pumping and drainage, water systems, and compressed air. This is an on-site position reporting to the Manager of Technical Services and is well suited to an engineer with hands-on underground mining or comparable heavy industrial infrastructure experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and support short-, mid-, and long-range engineering plans for critical mine infrastructure systems.
• Manage and evaluate underground and surface power distribution systems, substations, and backup generators.
• Design, analyze, and optimize underground pumping, dewatering, drainage, and water-management systems.
• Oversee underground ventilation systems, including ventilation fans, airflow networks, and working-heading ventilation.
• Conduct and document regular ventilation surveys and analyze airflow performance.
• Manage compressed-air distribution networks supporting pneumatic tools and drilling operations.
• Perform engineering calculations, system analysis, troubleshooting, and infrastructure assessments.
• Prepare clear and accurate technical engineering reports and recommendations.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, and other departments to support safe and reliable mine operations.
• Support mine infrastructure improvements, projects, and operational planning.
• Maintain awareness of applicable mining safety and regulatory requirements.
• Perform other engineering and technical duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• 5–7+ years of engineering experience, preferably in underground mining or a heavy industrial environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with underground mine ventilation and airflow systems.
• Experience with mine infrastructure systems such as:
  • Power distribution
  • Pumping and dewatering
  • Water and drainage systems
  • Compressed-air systems
  • Ventilation networks and fans
• Ability to perform engineering analysis and calculations and translate findings into practical recommendations.
• Strong technical report writing skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work on-site at an underground mining operation in New York.
• Authorization to work legally in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Mining Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Previous underground mining experience.
• Experience with Deswik and/or Ventsim.
• Working knowledge of MSHA regulations.
• Experience with high-voltage electrical networks, substations, or backup power systems.
• Experience with mine ventilation surveys and ventilation-network analysis.
